Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and Salem International each earned one non-conference win on Wednesday afternoon. Salem came away with a 3-1 decision in game one, and D&E triumphed by a 7-4 score in game two.
SIU's Nicco Lollio delivered a three-run blast in the top of the first to put Salem on top, 3-0. Ryan Dodson drove home a run in the sixth, trimming the deficit to 3-1, but D&E could get no closer.
Brandon Hammons (1-4) tossed the complete game, giving up three runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks.
In game two, Tyler Mason lined a bases-clearing double in the first inning, giving D&E a 3-0 lead. Tyler Honeycutt singled home a run in the second and a SIU error in the fourth extended the Senator's advantage to 5-0. Honeycutt's second RBI came in the sixth and made the score, 6-0. Travis Phelps pushed the score to 7-0 with a RBI double later in the inning. The Tigers plated four runs in the seventh before D&E was able to secure the 7-4 victory.
Mason (1-0) worked six plus innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two. Austin Main yielded two runs (one earned) on two hits and walked one in one inning on the mound.
Davis & Elkins closes out the 2015 season with a four-game set against Kentucky Wesleyan beginning on Friday at 12 p.m.
