Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, Ky. – Kentucky Wesleyan edged Davis & Elkins in a pair of important G-MAC contests on Friday afternoon. The Panthers squeaked out a 1-0 win in game one and outscored D&E, 9-6 in game two.
KWC's Kayla Norris scored the lone run of game one on a double play groundout, pushing the Panthers to the 1-0 victory.
Alexandra Lapallo (12-8) yielded one run on five hits, struck out two and walked one in the complete game effort.
In game two,
Taylor Norton and Lapallo each singled home runs, putting D&E on top, 2-0. KWC responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
Taylor Norton tied the game at 3-3 with her second RBI single of the game in the second inning. The Panthers retook the lead with a RBI single in the fourth. Lapallo belted a two-run shot in the fifth to pull D&E ahead 5-4. KWC tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and a D&E error allowed a second run to score as Kentucky Wesleyan took a 6-5 lead after five innings.
Katelyn Norton tied the game with a RBI double in the sixth. The Panthers plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the sweep, 9-6.
Lapallo surrendered six runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking two in four innings of work.
Autumn Appleby (1-6) allowed three runs on two hits and walked one during 1.1 innings in the circle.
Victoria Krystynak gave up two hits and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning.
D&E is now 19-19 overall and 11-7 in conference play with two G-MAC games remaining. Davis & Elkins will be either the fourth or fifth seed in next week's conference tournament, depending on the outcome of their final two league games.
Davis & Elkins and Kentucky Wesleyan conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
