Box Score 2 PARKERSBURG, W.Va. – Ohio Valley earned a pair of league victories over Davis & Elkins on Friday evening. The Scots took game one, 10-1 and rallied for a 9-7 triumph in the nightcap.
Travis Phelps singled home the first run of the day in the opening frame. A passed ball in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 1-1. A wild pitch, coupled with a RBI single in the third, put the Scots on top 3-1. Ohio Valley methodically pulled away with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the seventh to set the 10-1 margin.
Noah Jarboe (0-5) worked 4.1 innings, giving up eight runs (two earned) on nine hits, while striking out three and walking a pair. Heath Broughton tossed two innings, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Owen Arbogast hurled a scoreless 1.2 innings, relinquishing one hit, striking out one and walking two.
In game two, OVU plated five runs in the first and one in the second to open up a 6-0 advantage. Bryant Hines cut the deficit in half with a three-run blast in the third. Travis Phelps drove home two runs in the fifth and scored on a two-run double by Tyler Mason, putting D&E ahead, 7-6. OVU rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 9-6 win.
Jake Smith gave up seven runs (two earned) on 10 hits, striking out one and walking one in five innings. Brandon Hammons (1-3) surrendered two runs on one hit and walked one. Austin Main gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one in one inning.
D&E and OVU wrap-up their series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 10 a.m.
