Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins softball team split their final two home games with NAIA foe, West Virginia Tech, on Tuesday. The Senators earned a 6-2 win in game one, but were denied a victory in their home finale against the Golden Bears, dropping a 5-3 decision.
Alexandra Lapallo worked a bases-loaded free pass in the bottom of the first to put D&E in front, 1-0. Ashley Dove added a RBI single later in the frame to extend the lead to 2-0. WVU-T cut the deficit in half with a RBI double in the third. Chelsie Stover walked with the bases loaded in the fifth, making the score 3-1. West Virginia Tech plated a run in the top of the sixth to pull within one at 3-2. Taylor Norton doubled home a run, while both Kaitlyn Huffman and Lapallo singled home runs in the bottom of the inning to set the 6-2 margin.
Lapallo (12-6) tossed the complete game, yielding two runs on six hits and striking out four.
In game two, the Golden Bears capped a five-run fourth inning with a bases-clearing triple to take a 5-0 lead. Sydney Turner, Taylor Norton and Lapallo each recorded RBI in the sixth, but D&E could get no closer, falling 5-3.
Victoria Krystynak (5-4) surrendered five runs on eight hits and struck out one in 3.2 innings. Autumn Appleby allowed one hit and walked one over 3.1 innings in the circle.
Davis & Elkins begins a seven-game road trip to close out the regular season on Thursday at Trevecca. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
