Box Score 2 NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins dropped the final two games of their four-game set with Salem International on Friday evening at Frank Loria Memorial Field. SIU claimed a 7-0 decision in game one, and coasted to a 23-6 victory in the nightcap.
SIU broke a scoreless deadlock with five runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to secure the 7-0 victory in game one.
Jake Smith (1-5) worked 4.1 innings, yielding five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Heath Broughton hurled 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out one.
In game two, Bryant Hines put the Senators on top 1-0 with a RBI single in the top of the first. Salem International responded with a nine run outbreak on nine hits to pull ahead, 9-1. Stephen Mihalyo and Dylan Appel each singled home runs in the fourth, making the score 9-3. SIU opened the flood gates in the bottom of the inning with six more runs, extending their lead to 15-3. Ryan Dodson and Tyler Mason each recorded RBI in the fifth to get the deficit back to 10 at 15-5. The Tigers put four runs on the board in the bottom of the inning, and plated four in the seventh to open up a 23-5 cushion. Mason drove in the day's final run to set the 23-6 margin.
Tyler Honeycutt (1-6) surrendered 13 runs (12 earned) on 13 hits and walked two in 3.1 innings on the mound. Owen Arbogast allowed nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits and struck out four in 3.1 innings on the bump. Jake Williams gave up a run on a hit in one-third of an inning. Hines tossed a perfect inning.
