Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. –Davis & Elkins and Salem International split a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference contests on Saturday afternoon. The Senators took game one, 5-2, while the Tigers powered to a 4-2 win in game two.
Chelsie Stover tripled home a pair of runs in the second inning. A wild pitch and a groundout in the third extended the lead to 4-0. A D&E error allowed a pair of runs to cross the plate in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Alexandra Lapallo singled home a run in the seventh to set the 5-2 margin.
Lapallo (8-5) tossed the complete game, yielding two unearned runs on three hits, striking out five and walking two.
In game two, SIU's Katie Chryssofos delivered a three-run home run in the bottom of the first, putting the Tigers on top, 3-0. Kaitlyn Huffman singled home a run in the top of the second, making the score 3-1. Kaitlyn Daugherty drove home one in the fourth to pull the Senators within one at 3-2. Chryssofos tacked on an insurance run with a solo blast in the sixth inning to seal the 4-2 victory.
Autumn Appleby (1-5) worked six innings, surrendering four runs on three hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Davis & Elkins and Salem wrap-up their four-game set with a doubleheader in Elkins on Sunday at 2 p.m.
