Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State pounded out 17 hits to down Davis & Elkins, 16-3 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rams pulled ahead 2-0 on a two-run double in the first inning. Ryan Dodson scored on a WSSU error in the second inning to cut the deficit in half. Winston-Salem State plated one run in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth to extend their lead to 7-1. Tyler Honeycutt singled home a run in the fifth and Dylan Appel scored on a Ram error in the seventh, making the score 7-3. WSSU broke the game open in the eighth inning with nine runs to set the 16-3 margin.
Isaac Riggleman (0-1) surrendered seven runs (six earned) on six hits with five walks and a pair of strikeouts in three innings on the hill. Brandon Hammons worked four innings, yielding four runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Owen Arbogast gave up five runs on four hits in one-third of an inning. Silas Gibson walked one and allowed two hits in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
Davis & Elkins travels to Newberry on Friday at 1 p.m.
