Box Score 2 VIENNA, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins completed a four-game sweep of Ohio Valley on Sunday. D&E claimed a 5-3 win in game one and earned a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.
Ohio Valley took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer. Kaitlyn Huffman cut the lead in half with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Chelsie Stover put D&E in front with a two-run double and Ashley Dove added a run scoring single, making the score 4-2. OVU plated a run in the fourth to pull within one at 4-3. Sydney Turner provided an insurance run with a sacrifice bunt in the sixth to secure the 5-3 win.
Alexandra Lapallo (7-3) tossed the complete game, yielding three runs on six hits and walking three.
In game two, Katelyn Norton singled home a run in the first inning, and Whoolery added a two-run double, making the score 3-0. OVU trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the second inning. Taylor Norton doubled home a run in the bottom of the inning and Lapallo drove in one with a single in the fourth, extending the advantage to 5-2. The Fighting Scots tied the game with a three-run shot in the top of the fifth. Kaitlyn Huffman provided the deciding run with a solo blast in the bottom of the inning, propelling D&E to the 6-5 win.
Victoria Krystynak worked 4.1 innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 10 hits. Autumn Appleby (1-3) walked three in two-thirds of an inning. Lapallo earned the save, giving up two hits and striking out one in two innings in the circle.
Davis & Elkins travels to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday at 3 p.m.
