Golden Bears Post Pair of Wins over D&E

EAST BANK, W.Va. -- West Virginia Tech dealt Davis & Elkins a pair of setbacks on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears took game one, 9-3 and walked off a 2-1 winner in the nightcap.

WVU-Tech plated six runs in the open frame to take a 6-0 lead. Dylan Appel doubled home a run in the second to trim the deficit to 6-1. The Golden Bears added two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-1. Tyler Honeycutt stole home in the fifth, making the score 8-2. West Virginia Tech scored on run in the sixth and D&E plated one run on a wild pitch in the seventh to set the 9-3 margin. 

Austin Main (0-2) surrendered eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks in five innings on the hill. Tyler Mason worked one inning, allowing one run on one hit.  

In game two, Appel put the Senators on top in the second inning with a RBI single. The Golden Bears tied the game at 1-1 with a RBI groundout in the third. The game remained deadlocked until a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh allowed the winning run to score.

Noah Jarboe (0-3) tossed the complete game, yielding two runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking one.

D&E and WVU-Tech complete their weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday in Elkins. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
