Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –Davis & Elkins and Shepherd split a pair of high-scoring affairs on Monday. D&E outlasted SU, 5-4 in nine innings to start the day, the Rams outslugged the Senators, 9-7 in the nightcap.
The Rams began the scoring with a RBI double in the first inning. Ashley Dove tied the game at 1-1 with a RBI single in the third. Shepherd scratched across a run in the fifth to regain the lead at 2-1. A passed ball, followed by a Katelyn Norton RBI single, put D&E on top 3-2 in the seventh. The Rams rallied with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning to send the game to extras. Each team scored a run in the eighth before Kaitlyn Huffman was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded in the ninth to pick up the 5-4 win for the Senators.
Alexandra Lapallo (3-3) hurled the complete game, yielding four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
In game two, Shepherd opened the scoring with a RBI single in the first inning. A SU error tied the game at 1-1 in the second. Daugherty added a RBI single, and a wild pitch allowed a third run to score to put D&E on top, 3-1. The Rams pounded out nine hits in the fourth inning to plate seven runs and grab an 8-3 advantage. Kayla Whoolery got Davis & Elkins back into the game with a three-run homer in the fifth, and Dove added a RBI single to make it a one-run game at 8-7. A wild pitch gave Shepherd an insurance run in the sixth and set the 9-7 margin.
Taylor Norton (1-1) surrendered six runs on 10 hits and struck out one in three innings of work. Autumn Appleby gave up three runs on five hits during two innings in the circle. Victoria Krystynak tossed a perfect inning.
Davis & Elkins opens its home slate and G-MAC on Friday afternoon against Ursuline at 3:30 p.m.
