CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Tech split a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Little Creek Park. The Golden Bears claimed a 6-4 decision in game one, while Senators coasted to a 15-0 victory in game two.

Kaitlyn Huffman earned a bases-loaded free pass to put D&E on top, 1-0. Kayla Whoolery added a sacrifice fly, making the score 2-0. WVU-Tech cut the deficit to 2-1 with a RBI single. Allie Nowak converted a successful squeeze play in the second inning to make the score 3-1. A D&E error led to a pair of Golden Bears crossing the plate in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 3-3. West Virginia Tech broke the tie in the fourth inning with a RBI single and extended their lead to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Kaitlyn Daugherty walked with the bases-loaded in the seventh, but WVU-Tech was able to hang on for the 6-4 win. 

Alexandra Lapallo (2-3) yielded five runs (three earned) on nine hits and walked one in five innings. Victoria Krystynak worked one inning, giving up one run on one hit with one strikeout.

In game two, Sydney Turner was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded in the first inning and Huffman added a two-run single, making the score 3-0. Taylor Norton doubled home a run in the second, and Lapallo opened the flood gates with a three-run blast to push the score to 7-0. Daugherty added the next two runs with a single in the second and a double in the fourth. Ashley Dove and Lapallo each tacked on two-run singles, growing the lead to 13-0 after four innings. Taylor Norton added a two-run double in the fifth to set the 15-0 margin.

Taylor Norton (1-1) hurled a one-hit shutout, walking one and striking out one.

The Senators travel to Shepherd on Monday afternoon.
