Box Score 2 JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The D&E softball team opened the 2015 campaign on Friday. The Senators topped Lees-McRae (7-0) before falling to Carson-Newman (8-0).
Against Lees-McRae, Kayla Diana scored the first run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Alexandra Lapallo followed with a two-run single and Kayla Whoolery doubled home one to put D&E in front, 4-0. Ashley Dove notched a RBI with a successful squeeze play in the fourth, and Katelyn Norton added a RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0. Kaitlyn Daugherty stole home in the fifth, pushing the score to 7-0.
Lapollo (1-0) hurled the complete game shutout, giving up three of hits and striking out a pair.
Against Carson-Newman, two first inning errors led to three runs for the Eagles. CNU added three runs in the third and tacked on two in the fifth to set the 8-0 margin.
Autumn Appleby (0-1) yielded six runs (three earned) on six hits in 3.1 innings, with a pair of walks. Victoria Krystynak tossed 1.2 innings, surrendering two runs on two hits and walking one.
The Senators travel to Newberry on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
