Malone Forces OT With Buzzer Beater Three to Win 108-105 Over Senator Men's Basketball

The Basics
• Score: Malone 108, Davis & Elkins 105 (OT) at the Cedarville University Callan Classic
• Records: Malone (1-0), D&E (0-1)
• Location: Callan Athletic Center, Cedarville, Ohio
• The Short Story: The two teams battled evenly in the first half with D&E holding a 39-38 halftime advantage.  Malone built a 66-62 lead with 12:07 remaining in the second half, but D&E went on a 19-0 run over the next five minutes to claim their largest lead of the night 81-66.   With 1:53 to go in regulation, the Senators led 91-83 but Malone kept battling and cut the lead to 98-95 with 17 seconds to go and the ball. 

The D&E defense came up big with Jordan McElveen blocking Jay Parker's three-point attempt with three seconds to go, but Malone's Stephen O'Daniel III grabbed the offensive rebound and sank the three at the buzzer to even the game at 98-98 and he was fouled on the play, but missed the free throw which sent it to overtime.

Malone jumped out to the early advantage behind six points from Brian Stone who sank four free throws and a dunk to give the Pioneers a 104-99 lead with 2:37 to go in OT.  D&E's Kevin Bracy-Davis scored all six of the seven Senator points in the overtime, cutting the lead to one twice in the extra session, but Malone's Mitchell Spotleson iced the win with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds to go and Wesley Sprinkle missed his three-point attempt with two ticks to tie it.       

 Inside the Numbers
 Both teams struggled from the charity stripe D&E was 20-for-39 (51.3%), while Malone wa 15-for-28 (53.6%)
• Senators shot 51.3% percent from the floor (40-of-78), but just 33.3% from beyond the arc 5-for-15.
• D&E was led by Kevin Bracy-Davis with 22 points, five boards and three assists.  Aleksandar Vasiljevic posted a double-double with 15 points (6-for-7 from the field), 17 boards and added four assists and one steal.  Jordan McElveen scored 21 points, Rickenjee Bellevue had 17 points and seven boards, Kevin Simpson registered 15 points and Wesley Sprinkle added 13.
• First career game coaching for Nick Patella
• Brian Stone led the way for Malone with 26 points and nine boards, while Nate Sheppard added 23 and eight rebounds.

Senator Synopsis:
"We competed with focus for 95% of the game and did most of the little things right but for us to win it's going to take 100% focus for the entire game while doing ALL the little things," D&E Head Coach Nick Patella said. "This is a great learning opportunity for our young team."
