Box Score ELKINS, WV – Muscat's 1st goal of the season helps earn a win for the Senators.
The Basics
• Score: Davis & Elkins 1, Alderson Broaddus 0
• Records: D&E (7-2, 6-1), ABU (3-7, 3-4)
• Location: Nuttall Field, Elkins, WV
• The Short Story: Substitutes make the difference for D&E in a G-MAC rivalry match.
How it Happened
- D&E started strong but struggled to create solid chances thanks to a tough ABU defense.
- Looking for a change in the offense, Coach Smith subbed in Alyssa Jacobs in the 29th minute and Ashley Muscat in the 39th.
- Less than 2 minutes after being subbed on, Ashley Muscat would put the Senators on the board with a shot that landed in the side netting.
- In the 2nd half, D&E pressed hard to put in an assurance goal.
- ABU found a rhythm partway through the 2nd and had a few shots placed on goal. Thanks to the D&E defense most were from 25 yards out and Lauren Hill made easy work of them.
- ABU finished with 7 shots to D&E's 11 for the game.
Senator Perspective
"It's always a very difficult game when you play AB" stated coach Gene Smith. "It's always very physical, both teams play cautious, and I think that effects the tempo. I thought they (ABU) did a great job of stiffling our offense. However, today we got some play off our bench. Ashley scored a great goal and Alyssa really solidified our midfield."
Battler Perspective
"With the 2nd half performance I would like to see us come away with something, but when you start out like that it's tough to dig yourself out of a hole" stated coach Cristian Materazzi. "I'm proud of the way we finished the game, it's always a battle coming here, but I think we deserved something out of today."
Next the Senators will prep for conference opponent Cedarville on October 8th at D&E.
