Box Score SALEM, W.Va. -- Sharmaine Baker registered 28 points to lead Davis & Elkins past Salem International, 75-60.
Ashley Bowles notched a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Carley O'Neal added 12 points on the strength of 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Stephanie Wooten dished out 10 assists.
Shakinah Haggins paced the Tigers with 15 points. Jessica Lagard and Samantha Aikens each netted 13 points.
D&E dominated on the glass with a 51-26 advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds that translated into 21 second chance points. Davis & Elkins attempted a season-high 34 threes, but made only nine. The Senators struggled at the free throw line, converting on just 6-of-15 opportunities.
Davis & Elkins opened up a double-digit lead at 23-11 with a 12-2 run just before the midway point of the first half. Baker recorded 10 of the 12 points. The Senators held a 36-26 advanatge at the half.
Baker started the second half with a traditional three-point play, igniting a 12-0 surge to expand the cushion to 48-26. D&E led by as many as 27, coasting to the 75-60 victory.
The Senators return to the court on Monday at Ohio Valley. Tip time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
