Box Score SALEM, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins rallied past Salem International, 73-68 on Saturday.
Wesley Sprikle paced Davis & Elkins with 17 points. Kevin Bracy-Davis (14), Juwan Strothers (13) and Aleksandar Vasiljevic (12) also reached double figures for the Senators. Rickenjee Bellevue ripped down a season-high 15 rebounds.
SIU's Alex Webb netted a game-high 21 points. Abel Tillman (15), David Atkinson (11) and Tyler Bell (10) all recorded double-digits for the Tigers.
The differnce in the contest came at the charity stripe where D&E attempted 36 free throws, converting on 24 while SIU was a mere 8-of-16. The Tigers kept the game close, sinking 12 three-point field goals. Davis & Elkins held a 50-30 advantage on the glass, including 19 offensive rebounds which led to 20 second chance points. The Senators outscored Salem 36-14 on points in the paint.
Davis & Elkins pulled out to a 21-12 lead--following a 10-1 blitz, sparked by a three from Sprinkle. Salem stormed back with a 20-8 surge to go in front, 32-29. The Tigers scored the final seven points of the half to take a 39-31 lead into the break.
Salem began the second half with a 10-2 jolt, extending their advantage to 49-33. The Senators answered with 19 of the next 23 points, cutting the margin to on at 53-52. Seven of the 19 points came at the free throw line. Davis & Elkins scored the final 11 points of the contest to pull out the 73-68 win.
