INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Davis & Elkins senior goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week following her season opening performance against #12 California (Pa.) where she held the team scoreless through 110 minutes.

Ashley Winkelspecht has been named the conferences Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week to open the 2014 schedule. The Senators opened the season on the road against one of the nation's best, preseason #12 California University of Pennsylvania. D&E, behind the solid performance of the defense and senior goalkeeper Ashley Winkelspecht, the team left with a 0-0 double overtime tie.
 
Winkelspecht made six saves in the 110 minutes played as the defending conference champions opened the season. California (Pa.) had a few scoring chances in the first half, but D&E held the game scoreless and despite being outshot 14-6, including 11-4 in regulation, Winkelspecht helped the team start the season on a high note.
