Box Score MASON, Ohio – Cedarville score three runs in bottom of the ninth inning to oust Davis & Elkins in the G-MAC Tournament.
Matt Moceri opened the scoring with a solo home run over the left field fence in the first inning. CU tied the game at 1-1 with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Butts drove home D&E's second run with a groundout in the second, Cedarville responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front 3-2. A fielder's choice RBI by Travis Phelps, followed by a sacrifice fly from Ryan Dodson, put D&E back on top, 4-3 in the third inning. The Jackets tied the game at 4-4 with a solo home run in the fifth. Brad Banzhoff notched a bunt single for a RBI in the sixth and Moceri walked with the bases-loaded, making the score 6-4. Butts and Houston Darling singled home runs in the seventh and a fielder's choice RBI courtesy of Lance Vannoy extended the D&E lead to 9-4. A Senator error led to three runs in the eighth, as CU trimmed the deficit to 9-7. Four singles coupled with a pair of walks pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the ninth, sealing the 10-9 win.
Tyler Honeycutt worked 7.2 innings, yielding seven runs (four earned) on nine hits, walking seven and striking out six. Jake Smith (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits, walking one. Marcus Warner gave up two hits and walked one while on the mound.
Friday's loss is the final chapter in the careers of seniors Brad Banzhoff, Houston Darling, Treavor Dubiel, Tyler Gibbons, Matt Moceri and Michael Paratore.
