Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – Trevecca Nazarene completed a weekend sweep of Davis & Elkins by taking both ends of Sunday's doubleheader. TNU won game one 12-4, and rallied for a 17-9 win in the nightcap.
The Trojans strung together seven hits in the second inning, plating eight runs to take an 8-0 lead. The offensive onslaught continued in the third inning, as three more runs crossed the plate. Ryan Dodson put D&E on the scoreboard in the sixth with a RBI single. Bryant Hines added a RBI double, making the score 11-2 after six innings. TNU tacked on a solo homer in the seventh. Lance Vannoy and Treavor Dubiel each registered RBI in the seventh before a double play ended the game, 12-4.
Michael Paratore (0-4) lasted only 1.1 innings, yielding eight runs (six earned) on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Jake Smith hurled 5.2 innings in relief, giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out one.
TNU opened the scoring in game two with a RBI single in the first inning. Matt Moceri promptly tied the game at 1-1 with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Dodson put Davis & Elkins in front with a RBI single, and later scored on a two-run double by Travis Phelps, giving D&E a 4 -1 lead after one inning. Dylan Appel notched a RBI double in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Moceri, extending the lead to 6-1. TNU trimmed the margin to 6-3 with a two-run homer in the fifth. Dubiel drove home Moceri in the bottom half, making the score 7-3. A Senator error led to three runs for the Trojans in the sixth, cutting the lead to 7-6. TNU sent 13 men to the plate in the eighth, with eight ultimately crossing the plate, as Trevecca took a 14-7 lead. The Trojans tacked on three runs in the ninth.
Tyler Honeycutt earned a no-decision after tossing 7.1 innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. Brennan Dettinger (0-1) surrendered seven runs (six earned) on four hits with a pair of walks and two hit batters. Noah Jarboe gave up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Davis & Elkins travels to Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
