Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – TNU came away with a pair of victories over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon. Trevecca Nazarene held on for a 6-5 win in game one, and earned an 8-3 decision in game two.
The Trojans tallied a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a successful squeeze play and a RBI single. William Kendrick put D&E on the scoreboard with a RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Lance Vannoy deadlocked the game at 2-2 with a RBI single in the fifth. TNU scored a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh, retaking the lead at 6-2. Brad Banzhoff registered a two-run double in the eighth, making the score, 6-4. Vannoy singled home Dylan Appel in the ninth, but Trevecca was able to hang on for the 6-5 victory.
Zach Bradfield (0-2) was saddled with the loss, working six innings—yielding four runs (three earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. Brennan Dettinger tossed 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Jake Smith recorded the final two outs on the mound.
TNU posted three runs in the opening frame. Ryan Dodson pulled D&E within one at 3-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the inning. The Trojan offense seized control with two runs in the second and two in the fourth, extending the lead to 7-2. Houston Darling drove home a run in the sixth, making the score 7-3. The Trojans added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to seal the 8-3 win.
Marcus Warner (0-4) surrendered seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks and a pair of strikeouts. Forest Williamson gave up one run and walked three in two innings of work. Christian Scott allowed one hit in one-third of an inning. Smith tossed a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
The Senators and Trojans wrap-up their weekend set with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
