Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins baseball team sent its head coach, Ronnie Palmer, and six seniors out winners with a sweep of Ohio Valley on Sunday. The Senators rolled to a 9-3 victory in game one, and rallied for an 11-5 win in game two.
Palmer will step away from the Senator baseball program following this season to become D&E's full-time athletic director.
The Scots took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Marcus Warner drove home a pair of runs in the bottom of the second with a double and scored on an inside-the-park home run by Houston Darling. Matt Moceri plated three more with a three-run blast to left center, making the score 7-0. Travis Phelps tripled home the final run of the inning. OVU posted a two-run triple in the third inning. Bryant Hines singled home the game's final run in the fifth inning.
Michael Paratore (3-4) tossed the complete game, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, Ryan Dodson worked a bases-loaded free pass for the first run. Dylan Appel singled home a pair of runs and Ryan Butts tacked on a RBI single as D&E went in front 4-0 after one inning. Two OVU runs crossed the plate in the second inning, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The Scots added single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, going in front, 5-4.The Senators capitalized on a pair of Fighting Scot errors in the eighth as Butts singled home the equalizing run. Darling, Brad Banzhoff, Phelps and Logan Mongold each added single RBI in the inning, while Moceri drove in a pair to allow D&E to take the 11-5 win.
Marcus Warner (2-6) hurled the complete game, yielding five runs (two earned) on 12 hits, striking out five and walking one.
Davis & Elkins travels to Bluefield State on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
