Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and Ohio Valley split the opening half of their weekend set on Saturday afternoon. D&E rolled to an 11-3 victory in game one, while OVU took game two, 5-2.
Matt Moceri doubled home D&E's first run of the day in the opening frame. Treavor Dubiel added a sacrifice fly and Travis Phelps notched a RBI single as D&E took a 3-0 lead after one inning. OVU scored on a groundout in the second, making the score 3-1 after two innings. Travis Phelps singled home a run in the third and Moceri cleared the bases in the fourth with a double, extending the Senator lead to 7-1. Bryan Hines notched a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Moceri drove home one in the sixth. Ohio Valley scored one in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 9-2. Phelps singled home one in the seventh and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Dodson made the score 11-2. The Scots scored one in the ninth, setting the 11-3 margin.
Zach Bradfield (1-4) hurled the complete game, yielding three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, Ohio Valley opened the scoring with a RBI double in the second. Brad Banzhoff and Moceri drove home runs in the third, as D&E grabbed a 2-1 lead. OVU knotted the game at 2-2 in the fourth and managed three runs in the sixth, taking game two, 5-2.
Tyler Honeycutt (5-2) tossed six innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk. Jake Smith pitched a scorless inning, allowing one hit.
The Senators and Scots wrap-up their weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 p.m.
