Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – The D&E baseball team pushed its win streak to six with a sweep of Salem International on Saturday. The Senators took game one, 8-1 and outscored the Tigers 18-11 in the nightcap.
Brad Banzhoff got the Senator offense started with a two-run single in the second inning. Matt Moceri pushed the lead to 4-0 with a single in the fourth. RBI groundouts from Houston Darling and Bryant Hines extended the margin to 6-0. Lance Vannoy drove one home with a single later in the inning, and Travis Phelps tacked on a RBI groundout in the sixth as the lead swelled to 8-0. SIU registered a RBI double in the seventh to conclude the scoring in game one.
Michael Paratore (2-4) pitched the complete game, giving up one run on five hits, striking out six and walking a pair.
In game two, Salem jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Phelps was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Darling followed with a two-run single as D&E knotted the game at 3-3 after one inning. Moceri broke the tie with a RBI single in the second. William Kendrick drove home one on a fielder's choice in the third, and scored on a two RBI double from Vannoy. SIU scored two runs in the fourth, making the score 7-5. Ryan Dodson doubled home Phelps in the fourth, and Moceri laced a two-run single in the fifth as the lead grew to 10-5. Vannoy and Treavor Dubiel each recorded one RBI, while Moceri drove home two in the sixth, extending the lead to 14-5. The Tigers clawed back with five runs in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 14-10. Kendrick singled home one in the bottom of the inning. Phelps singled home a run in the eighth and scored on the Dodson's first career home run—which was also the first by a Senator at Harpertown Field this season. SIU got a sacrifice fly in ninth, setting the 18-11 margin.
Marcus Warner (1-6) worked 6.1 innings, allowing seven runs (two earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts and five walks. Christian Scott tossed the final 2.2 innings, yielding four runs (three earned) on five hits, while striking out one and walking a pair.
The Senators travel to California (Pa.) on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
