Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and Notre Dame (Ohio) each picked up one win on Thursday. The Falcons held on for an 8-6 when in game one, while the Senators took the nightcap, 6-3.
NDC belted a grand slam in the first inning, and added a solo bomb in the second, grabbing a 5-0 lead. Samantha Smith drove in a run with a single in the fourth, and D&E managed a second run on a Notre Dame error. The Falcons pushed the lead back to five at 7-2 with a two-run single in the fifth. An error, followed by a sacrifice fly by Corrine Carrington, made the score 7-4 after five. Notre Dame tacked on a run in the sixth. Amanda Serafini belted a solo shot in the bottom of the inning. Davis & Elkins loaded the basses in the seventh, but managed only one run on a Smith sacrifice fly, enabling the Falcons to hold on for the 8-6 win.
Amber LaBille (4-13) surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits, while striking out eight and walking six.
In game two, Serafini and Katelyn Norton each drove in one and Ashley Dove notched a two-run single, giving D&E a 4-0 advantage after two innings. A Senator miscue allowed Notre Dame to score a run in the third inning. Kayla Whoolery registered a sacrifice fly and Carrington added a RBI single as the lead grew to 6-1. NDC scored two runs in the fifth, but got no closer as D&E took the 6-3 victory.
Alanna Jones (7-9) allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits, striking out six and walking a pair.
The Senators host Alderson Broaddus on Saturday at 2 p.m.
