Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – West Virginia Tech pulled off a pair of come-from-behind victories over Davis & Elkins on Tuesday. WVU-Tech came away with a 4-1 win and erased a 10-run deficit in game two to claim an 18-13 decision.
In game one, Bryant Hines drove home Ryan Dodson during the second inning to put the Senators in front, 1-0. The Golden Bears plated a run on a wild pitch in the third to tie the game at 1-1. West Virginia Tech registered RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth to take a 3-1 lead. WVU-Tech tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to set the 4-1 deficit.
Michael Paratore (0-3) tossed the first four innings, yielding three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Brennan Dettinger hurled three innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.
In game two, West Virginia Tech grabbed a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly and a RBI single in the first inning. The Senator offense responded with a RBI single by Travis Phelps and a two-run single by Houston Darling to take a 3-0 lead after one inning. Lance Vannoy, Treavor Dubiel and Ryan Dodson each recorded RBI as part of a six-run second inning, extending the lead to seven at 9-2. Vannoy added a two-run double in the third, and later scored on a Matt Moceri single, making the score 12-2. The Golden Bears scored six runs in the fourth, trimming the deficit to 12-8. A wild pitch allowed the 13th D&E run to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning. WVU-Tech plated nine runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to secure the 18-13 win.
The Senator bullpen allowed 16 runs on 17 hits after starter Tyler Honeycutt left with an apparent injury, just three batters into the game. Forest Williamson (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing 3 runs on one hit with a pair of walks in one third of an inning.
Davis & Elkins is scheduled to host Trevecca Nazarene in a weekend series, beginning at noon on Friday.
