Box Score 2 BUENA VISTA, Va. -- D&E scored 23 runs in a sweep of Division III opposition, Southern Virginia, on Monday. The Senators took game one, 11-2, and never let up in game two, rolling to a 12-2 victory.
Danielle Norton opened the scoring with a RBI double. Chelsie Stover added a two-run double, later scoring on a RBI single by Katelyn Norton, as D&E took a 4-0 lead after one inning. SVU errors extended the Senator advantage to 6-0, before Southern Virginia got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Davis & Elkins tacked on two in both the third and fourth innings before Norton blasted her second home run of the season in the fifth. The Knights plated one in the bottom half before D&E closed out the 11-2 win.
Alana Jones (4-5) went the distance for D&E, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks.
The Senator offense encountered little resistance from the winless Knights in the nightcap. Kayla Whoolery belted a two-run blast to put D&E in front 2-0. Katelyn Norton extended the lead to 3-0 with a RBI single. Danielle Norton and Corrine Carrington each posted RBI singles in the second, making the score 5-0. SVU managed a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, but miscues led to two more runs in the third as the D&E lead swelled to 7-2. Whoolery and Danielle Norton each registered two-run doubles in the fifth to set the 12-2 margin.
Amber LaBille (2-8) yielded two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts in four innings. Samantha Davis hurled a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout.
Davis & Elkins travels to NAIA foe West Virginia Tech on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m.
