Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins and Salem International each picked up one league win on Saturday. The Senators claimed game one in walk-off fashion, 1-0, while the Tigers belted a pair of homers in an 8-3 victory during game two.
Game one was a pitchers' duel from the start. Only one runner reached third base in the first 6.5 innings. The bottom of the seventh began with a single by Katelyn Norton. Norton was pinch run for by Alana Jones, who managed to go from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by Samantha Smith, and score on a Chelsie Stover sacrifice fly.
Amber LaBille (1-8) tossed the complete game shutout, allowing only three hits with three strikeouts and three walks. LaBille allowed only one Tiger to reach second base.
The SIU offense responded in game two with a solo home run in the first, and a two-run double in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Ashley Dove answered with a bases-clearing double to knot the game at 3-3 after two innings. A pair of RBI groundouts in the fourth put Salem in front, 5-3. The Tigers added a solo blast in the fifth and tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to set the 8-3 margin.
Jones (3-5) gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits with one strikeout in five innings of work. LaBille hurled two innings in relief, yielding two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking a pair.
Davis & Elkins travels to Southern Virginia on Monday.
