Box Score 2 PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins baseball team split the final two games of its weekend series with Alderson Broaddus. AB rallied for a 6-4 win in game one, while D&E returned the favor with a 4-3 win in game two.
Houston Darling put D&E in front 1-0 in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Matt Moceri belted a three-run jack in the fifth, extending the lead to 4-0. A Davis & Elkins error led to a pair of AB runs in bottom of the inning, trimming the deficit to 4-2. The Battlers exploded for four runs in the sixth to take the 6-4 victory.
Zach Bradfield hurled the first five innings, yielding two unearned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Noah Jarboe (2-1) surrendered four runs (three earned) on one hit with one walk in one-third of an inning. Christian Scott walked one and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning.
AB took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a balk and a RBI triple. Brad Banzhoff cut the deficit to 2-1 with a RBI single in the fifth. The second balk of the day extended the Alderson Broaddus lead to 3-1. Travis Phelps and Darling each notched RBI in the eighth to tie the game at 3-3. Moceri delivered a RBI single in the ninth that proved to be the difference.
Tyler Honeycutt (4-1) tossed 8.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. Scott worked two-thirds of an inning to pick up his second save of the season.
The Senators are slated to host West Virginia Tech on Saturday.
