Box Score 2 PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins dropped both ends of its G-MAC opening doubleheader with rival Alderson Broaddus on Friday afternoon. The Battlers squeaked out an 8-4 victory in game one before posting a 6-0 victory in game two.
Ryan Dodson put D&E in front 1-0 with a RBI single in the second. Dodson added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, extending the lead to 2-0. A RBI single, a double play and a wild pitch combined to allow the Battlers to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning. William Kendrick promptly tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth with a solo homerun. AB retook the lead in the seventh with a RBI single and tacked on four runs in the eighth to take an 8-3 lead. Lance Vannoy drove home one in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as D&E fell 8-4.
Michael Paratore (0-2) tossed 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. Brennan Dettinger hurled 1.1 innings, surrendering four runs of three hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks. Jake Smith registered a perfect one-third of an inning on the mound.
The Battlers plated three runs in the second and third innings to set the 6-0 margin in game two.
Marcus Warner (0-4) yielded six runs on eight hits in just 2.2 innings. Forest Williamson allowed just one hit over 3.1 innings in relief striking out a pair.
The Battlers and Senators wrap-up their four-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
