Box Score 2 BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins baseball team swept former WVIAC foe Glenville State on Tuesday afternoon at Linda K. Epling Stadium. The Senators took game one, 7-1 and scored six runs in the fourth to win game two, 6-2.
GSC opened the scoring in game one with a RBI single in the second inning. D&E manufactured a run in the bottom half on a RBI groundout by Ryan Butts, scoring Houston Darling--who led off the inning with a double. Travis Phelps roped a two-run single to right center in third, putting Davis & Elkins in front, 3-1. Ryan Dodson tacked on a two-run double down the left field line, making the score 5-1 after three. Treavor Dubiel notched a RBI with a groundout in the fourth, and an error in the fifth scored the final run of the game.
Tyler Honeycutt (3-1) tossed six innings, giving up one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Christian Scott walked one in a scoreless inning of work.
In game two, Phelps ignited the Senator offense with a solo blast just inside the left field foul pole. Brad Banzhoff added a RBI and Matt Moceri worked a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 3-0. Dubiel laced a two-run single, pushing the margin to 5-0. Phelps' second at-bat of the inning resulted in a RBI single, capping the scoring. The Pioneers managed a pair of RBI base hits in the sixth, but could get no closer as D&E held on for the 6-2 victory.
Noah Jarboe (2-0) hurled the complete game, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out five.
Davis & Elkins opens G-MAC play on Friday at Alderson Broaddus.
