Box Score 2 NEWBERRY, S.C. – Davis & Elkins dropped a pair of mercy ruled contests to Newberry on Sunday. The Wolves rolled to a 13-2 victory in game one and claimed a 9-1 decision in game two.
In game one, Corrine Carrington drove home Kayla Whoolery, giving D&E a 1-0 advantage. NU knotted the game at 1-1 with a RBI single. The Wolves tacked on two in the second, nine in the third and one in the fourth to seal the 13-2 win.
Alanna Jones (0-2) tossed 2.1 innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on four hits while walking seven and striking out one. Autumn Appleby gave up six runs on two hits with eight walks in one inning. Amber Labille hurled a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
In game two, Newberry strung together four singles with two outs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Ashley Dove drove home Kaitlyn Daugherty, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth. NU plated seven runs in the bottom of the inning to set the 9-1 margin.
LaBille (0-2) worked 4.1 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts and three walks. Jones hurled one-third of an inning, allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits and walked one.
D&E returns to the field on Monday at St. Augustine's. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
