Box Score 2 LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins softball team dropped both ends of its season-opening doubleheader with St. Andrews. D&E dropped game one, 3-2 on a walk-off single and fell in game two by a score of 3-0.
In game one, Kayla Whoolery scored the day's first run on a passed ball in the first inning. Katelyn Norton added a RBI single, making the score 2-0. SAU got a RBI single in the bottom of the inning, and tied the game at 2-2 on a wild pitch in the second. After the Knights' Jen George stole second, MeKayla Valentine drove a 3-1 pitch to right, scoring the game-winner.
Alana Jones (0-1) yielded three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
In game two, the Knights strung together four base hits in the first to take a 3-0 lead. D&E was unable to mount a serious threat as SAU claimed the 3-0 shutout.
Amber LaBille (0-1) surrendered three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one.
D&E faces Newberry on Sunday in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
