Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – Shakir Dunning buried a three with eight seconds remaining to propel Bluefield State to a 79-78 victory over Davis & Elkins on Thursday.
Devin Miller registered a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds). Kevin Bracy-Davis chipped in with 15 points.
Dunning poured in a game-high 39 points. Treon Claiborne (13) and Dominique Cartier (11) added double figures for BSC.
Brian Dixon drained a pair of threes early, building a 9-3 lead for the Senators. D&E controlled play the rest of the half, taking a 35-27 lead to the locker room.
The Davis & Elkins bench outscored BSC's bench 20-3, led by six points from Anthony Daniels. D&E held a sizable 26-15 advantage on the boards in the opening 20 minutes and turned nine offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points.
Aleks Vasiljevic opened the second half with a traditional three-point play, pushing the lead to 38-27. The Blues answered with a 21-8 blitz, taking a brief 48-46 lead. Dunning scored 13 of the 21 points. Bracy-Davis scored the next four D&E points, igniting a 10-3 surge that put the Senators back on top, 56-51. BSC buried a trio of threes to eventually lock the game up at 74-74. A Miller dunk gave D&E a 78-76 lead with 20 seconds to play before Dunning buried a three from the right wing, putting the Blues in front, 79-78. T.J. Guthrie's jumper at the buzzer wouldn't fall as BSC stole the 79-78 victory.
The Senators close out the regular season on Saturday against Alderson Broaddus at 4 p.m.
