Box Score VIENNA, W.Va. – Robert Smelser scored with one second remaining in overtime to propel Ohio Valley to an 85-84 win over Davis & Elkins on Monday.
Devin Miller registered 30 points for D&E. Kevin Bracy-Davis (15) and T.J. Guthrie (10) also reached double digits.
Sequan Lawrence poured in a game-high 40 points. Austin Parker (16) and Smelser (11) added double figures for OVU.
D&E held a 40-33 advantage on the glass.
Ohio Valley raced to a 12-2 lead to open play. Bracy-Davis and Miller each nailed threes as part of a 21-3 surge by D&E, making the score 23-15. The Scots remained within eight until an 8-0 sprint by the Senators increased the lead to 37-21. Brian Dixon scored all eight points. Davis & Elkins held a 43-32 lead headed to the locker room.
OVU scored 12 of the first 16 points in the second half, trimming the margin to 47-44. D&E managed to stay in front until the Scots tied the game at 71-71 with three minutes to play in regulation. Lawrence scored Ohio Valley's next five points, making the score 76-73 before Guthrie buried a three, sending the game into overtime.
Davis & Elkins led the extra session until a traditional three-point by Lawrence put OVU on top 83-82. Aleks Vasiljevic scored on the ensuing D&E possession before Smelser came down and hit the game-winner for the Scots.
The Senators host Bluefield State on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
