Box Score

Story by Ashley Magallanez, D&E Sports Information Intern

ELKINS, W. Va.-  Davis & Elkins reached the 10-win mark with a 70-65 victory over West Virginia Tech.

Devin Miller led the way for the Senators with 27 points, followed by Brian Dixon who added 13. Kevin Bracy-Davis pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds and blocked five shots, while Aleks Vasilijevic ripped down 10 boards.

Stephen Coles registered 22 points, while Brandon Burgraff chipped in 13 for the Golden Bears.

The teams exchanged baskets early with six ties in the first half. Rasheed Parker's back-to-back baskets ignited a 7-2 sprint to put D&E in front 18-14. The battle continued until the Senators used another 7-2 blitz to take a 36-34 lead to the locker room.

D&E out-rebounded Tech 26-16 in the first half.  Coles scored 13 points to keep the Golden Bears in the game.

The Senators opened the second half with a 7-0 run, sparked by Devin Miller's mid-range jump shot and three-pointer. The Golden Bears then answered with a 7-0 dash to put the game at 47-46. Bracy-Davis put D&E in front 66-65 with a second chance bucket. Devin Miller came up with a huge block on the ensuing possession, and Brian Dixon sank a pair of free-throws to seal the 70-65 conquest.

"Hopefully this game is a turning point for our team--going forward, if we commit to playing the way we played tonight, defensively and on the glass. We had a lot of players make winning plays throughout the game. Offensively, I was pleased with how we handled their pressure and played aggressively and unselfishly" adds Cottrell.

Davis & Elkins had 44 rebounds for the night, while the Bears had 38. West Virginia Tech outscored D&E in the paint 28-20.

"Our fans' enthusiasm had a role in our win tonight, helped us get stops in the end and we expect to see them again Thursday night".

The Senators will be back in action at the McDonell Center Thursday when they take on the Yellow Jackets.
