Box Score BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Bluefield State broke a 37-37 tie at the break with 57 points after halftime to run away with a 94-71 victory over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening.
Sharmaine Baker netted a game-high 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for D&E. Ashley Bowles added 18 points.
Six Blues reached double figures, led by Shakima Wiggins' 19 point effort. Hope Smith (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Tasia Nolan (10 points, 13 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles. Charity Harris (14), Amber Bryson (14) and Tenika Jackson (10) also reached double-digits for BSC.
Bluefield State shot 50 percent (38-of-76) from the field, while limiting D&E to 36 percent (26-of-73). Davis & Elkins held a slim 48-47 advantage on the glass. BSC scored 23 points off of 16 Senator turnovers.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair until a 14-4 jolt by the Blues opened up a 35-27 gap. D&E countered with back-to-back threes from Bowles, igniting a 10-2 surge that would knot the game at 37-37 heading to the locker room.
Bluefield State registered 22 of the first 30 points in the second half, and would go on to lead by as many as 25 on their way to the 94-71 victory.
D&E opens conference play on Saturday at Alderson Broaddus. Tip time is slated for 5:15 p.m.
