Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 (25-16, 20-25, 12-25, 25-22, 15-12) victory over league-leader Ursuline on Friday afternoon.
Alexis Mourier blistered a season-high 24 kills and picked up 10 digs, earning her first career double-double. Elizabeth Estes (13) and Anna Gallup (10) also notched double-digit kills for D&E. Zoe Craig posted 25 assists and 15 digs. Haylee Murray added 16 assists and 13 digs, while Michaela Touchet finished with 17 digs and 10 assists.
In set one, D&E capitalized on UC errors turning a 7-6 lead into a 14-7 advantage. The Arrows closed to within three at 19-16, but the Senators scored the final six points to seal the 25-16 win.
The late momentum carried over to set two as Davis & Elkins seized an 8-1 advantage behind three Mourier kills. Ursuline exploited 12 D&E miscues to create a 13-5 blitz that would propel them to a 25-20 win and even the match at 1-1.
Ursuline ran away with a lopsided win in set three, setting the stage for a dramatic comeback.
UC pulled ahead 13-8 in set four, but D&E answered with an 8-1 surge to grab a 16-14 lead. The Arrows scored the next six points, going back in front 20-16. Gallup and Estes combined for the next three points as part of a 9-2 finish to the set, capped by a Mourier kill.
D&E fell behind 2-0 in the deciding set, but scored 10 of the next 12 points going on top 10-4.Ursuline didn't go quietly, rallying back to tie the game at 12-12; however back-to-back Arrow errors allowed Mourier to secure the victory with her final kill of the afternoon.
D&E hosts Rio Grande (11 a.m.) and Glenville State (3 p.m.) in a tri-match on Saturday.
