Box Score EDINBORO, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins women' s basketball team claimed the program's first victory over a ranked team with a 70-67 win over #22 Edinboro on Thursday.
Jorden Lykes (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Ashley Magallanez (10 points, 11 rebounds) each registered double-doubles for D&E. Stephanie Wooten posted 15 points, while Ashley Bowles chipped in with 13.
Aignee Freeland notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Hippo (14) and Valerie Majewski (13) also reached double figures for ESU.
D&E translated 16 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points. Davis & Elkins made six threes compared to just a pair for Edinboro.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle with neither team leading by more than five points. The Senators held a slim 35-34 advantage at the half.
The Scots pulled out to a 56-47 lead with 11 minutes to play. Davis & Elkins responded with a 16-7 blitz to knot the game at 63-63 on a three from Bowles. Wooten put the Senators in front 68-67 with a three, and buried two free throws on the next possession, making the score 70-67. Majewski's three at the buzzer was off the mark as D&E took the 70-67 win.
The Senators return to the McDonnell Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Ursuline.
