ELKINS W.Va- The Fighting Scots held off the Davis and Elkins Senators 85-82 on Thursday evening.
Devin Miller led the way for the Senators with 22 points. Two others turned in double figures for D&E--Kevin Bracy-Davis (17) and Juwan Strothers (15).
The Fighting Scots were led by double-doubles from Sequan Lawrence (27pts, 11 Rebounds) and Arturs Vitins (13pts, 10 Rebounds). Jerry Macon (15) and Povilas Dambrauskas (14) also chipped in double figures.
The Scots went to the free throw line 43 times, compared to 26 trips for the Senators. Ohio Valley held a 43-41 advantage on the glass. D&E scored 23 second chance points.
Ohio Valley made six of their first seven shots to take an early 21-20 lead. The Senators responded with a 16-5 surge, capped by back-to-back dunks from Miller and Bracy-Davis to take a 36-26 lead. Lawrence scored the next eight points for the Scots, spurring a 15-5 run to knot the game at 41-41 at the half.
Ohio Valley built a 62-54 lead with an 8-2 jolt. D&E countered with a 9-1 run to tie the game at 63-63. OVU pulled ahead 74-69; D&E battled back, but Guthrie's game-tying attempt from beyond the arc was blocked, allowing the Scots to claim the 85-82 win.
D&E hosts Salem on Saturday at 4 p.m.
