Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Devin Miller and Aleks Vasiljevic combined for 43 points and 22 rebounds to lead D&E to a 76-66 victory over Trevecca Nazarene.
Miller netted a game-high 27 points and finished off a double-double with 10 rebounds. Vasiljevic pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with his 16 point effort. Juwan Strothers chipped in with 14 points.
David Woodard led the Trojans with 14 points off the bench. Nick Drake (13), Taylor Clay (10) and Jordan Bedwell (10) also reached double figures for Trevecca Nazarene.
The Senators sank 30-of-35 attempts (86 percent) at the charity stripe. Davis & Elkins held a 47-45 advantage on the glass and limited TNU to 31 percent (21-of-68) shooting from the field. The Trojans translated 21 offensive rebounds into 22 second chance points.
Coach Chris Cottrell said, "I'm proud of our team's effort to bounce back on the road."
Davis & Elkins held the largest lead of the first half at 21-15. TNU responded with a 13-4 surge, going in front 28-25. Strothers scored the final basket of the half, but the Trojans maintained a 28-27 lead at the break.
A traditional three-point play by Miller sparked a 14-1 Senator blitz to open the second half that made the score 41-29. TNU chipped away, pulling within six at 66-60 with just over two minutes left. D&E secured the victory by making 8-of-8 free throws in the final minute.
Cottrell added, "We need to sustain our effort in practice and gain some traction in the G-MAC with two more road games next week."
The Senators travel to Cedarville on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
