ELKINS, WV -Alderson-Broaddus earned a first-round victory, shocking No. 4 Davis & Elkins 58-54 on the road. It marked the first victory for the Battlers in the opening round since 1999.
Trailing 52-48 with 5:56 to play, the Battlers reeled off 10 of the final 12 points to secure the victory. Leah Hurst completed an old-fashioned three-point play, pulling A-B within one with 4:37 to go. She then drained a three-point shot at the 2:31 mark for a 54-52 advantage.
Beth Gribble knotted the contest for the Senators with 2:09 to play, but Nautica Davis gave the visitors the lead for good with a jumper at the 1:25 mark. Hurst added two foul shots with 11 ticks on the clock to secure the win.
Hurst accounted for a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds for A-B. Cayla Rhodes amassed 11 points, pulled down five boards and swatted five shots in just 18 minutes of work. Davis chipped in nine points and dished out six assists in the contest.
D&E was led by Page Turner's 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Amy Turner totaled nine markers while Jorden Lykes scored eight points to go along with a game-best 12 rebounds. Ashley Bowles came off the bench to score eight.
