SALISBURY, NC - The Davis & Elkins softball team opened the 2013 campaign with a win on Sunday afternoon.
The Senators defeated Winston-Salem State 2-1 as pitcher Alanna Jones recorded six strikeouts.  Freshman Kayla Whoolery went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and senior Mallory Wishard was 1-for-2 with an RBI double.
D&E dropped the second game of the day falling to Shippensburg 16-1.  Pitcher Amber Labille suffered the loss and sophomore Kaitlyn Daughtery finished 2-for-2 with a double and a home run.
The Senators face Shaw University on Monday in a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
