MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Davis & Elkins held Chowan without a field goal over the final 3:46 to come away with a 75-72 win on Saturday afternoon.

Bruce Komakech, Wesley Sprinkle and Devin Miller each posted 14 points for D&E. Alex Visiljevic added 13 points and Juwan Strothers chipped in with 12 points. Miller finished with a game-high four assists.

The Hawks where piloted by Phoenix Butler-Poole, who registered 26 points and 14 rebounds.  Tiron Brown (14) and Ashante Ross (13) also finished in double figures for CU.

The Senators shot 55 percent (28-of-51) from the field, including eight-of-18 from three while limiting the Hawks to 38 percent (22-pf-58). Chowan held a 35-26 advantage in rebounding. The Hawks pulled down 19 offensive rebounds and turned them into 20 second chance points. The D&E bench outscored Chowan's bench 19-7.  The Senators sank 11-of-12 attempts at the free throw line.

Davis & Elkins raced to a 14-4 lead in the opening four minutes. The fast start was ignited by back-to-back threes from Sprinkle and Miller. CU responded with an 11-3 jolt, capped by a traditional three-point play by Brown, making the score 17-15.  Miller and Tivius Guthrie sparked a 12-5 sprint from there to build the D&E lead back to 29-20. Chowan answered with an 8-0 surge, cutting the deficit to 29-28, and the Senators countered with an 8-0 run of their own to push the lead to 37-28. Komakech scored four of the eight points. D&E held a 41-36 advantage at the break.

Chowan pulled even at 55-55 with a 7-0 surge early in the second half. CU grabbed a brief 68-67 lead with 3:46 to play in the game.  Komakech put the Senators in front for good with a layup on the ensuing possession; Ross' three at the buzzer wouldn't fall, allowing D&E to take the 75-72 victory.

D&E returns to the court on Friday at Bluefield State. Tip time is slated for 8 p.m.
