Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Senator men's basketball team downed Lock Haven, 78-76 on Wednesday night.
Wesley Sprinkle scored 18 points off the bench for Davis & Elkins. Tivius Guthrie chipped in with 16 points and Devin Miller added 11 points. Miller finished with a team-high nine rebounds. Bruce Komakech registered 10 points (all in the second half).
Bootsie Walker led the Bald Eagles with 19 points. Wali Hepburn tallied a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds). Kasheef Festus (11) and Julian Bond (10) also added double figures for LHU.
The Senators shot 52 percent (29-of-56) from the field, including 11-of-21 (52 percent) from beyond the arc. Lock Haven kept the game close by making 29-of-44 attempts at the charity stripe, while Davis & Elkins made only nine-of-13 attempts. The Bald Eagles scored 17 points off of 19 D&E turnovers, but were outscored 36-15 in bench points.
Lock Haven pulled out to a 17-9 advantage to open the game. The quick start was aided by four D&E turnovers. The Senators responded with a 17-5 run to take a 26-22 lead. Brian Dixon sparked the run with a pair of threes. Davis & Elkins held a 37-32 lead at the break.
LHU began the second half with a 20-8 jolt to go back in front, 52-45. The Bald Eagles made nine free throws during the run. The lead again changed hands after a 15-5 surge by the Senators that made the score 60-57. The run was capped by a Komakech dunk. D&E built a seven point lead at 78-71, but a pair of turnovers left Bond with a three at the buzzer that wouldn't fall as D&E held on for the 78-76 win. Komakech, Guthrie and Sprinkle combined for 29 of D&E's final 33 points in the game.
Davis & Elkins welcomes Shawnee State on Saturday in its home-opener at 7 p.m.
