WILMINGTON, DE – The Davis & Elkins volleyball team dropped two matches in the Wilmington Tournament on Friday.
The Senators' lost in their first match against West Chester earlier today finishing each set (19-25), (16-25), and (20-15). Later, D&E faced Bentley University in their final match of the day the women once again fell short in an exciting match. With a slow start in the first two sets, they lost (21-25) and (27-29), but with a quick change of pace in set three, sophomore Casey Bannon got the Senators back on track with a crucial block, setting the tone and forcing Bentley back on their heels. Going into the fourth set the two teams battled until a kill from Heather Zapf gave the Senators a 1-0 scoring run that they never lost as the Senators took the fourth set (25-14). Nikki Miller started off the fifth set with two service aces. Heather Zapf had a strategic tool off the block that brought the team in the lead 4-2. In the fifth set, the Senators ultimately fell to Bentley in the end rapping the fifth game up at (10-15). Players Nikki Miller, Haylee Murray, and Kelsey Richards led the team in aces overall.
The Senators will return to competition on Saturday, September 8th challenging Indiana University Pennsylvania at 12:30a.m and Wilmington University at 3:00 p.m.
