PHILIPPI, WV - The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team defeated Millersville University 3-1 Wednesday afternoon to earn a key regional win.
The Senators got on the board first when Darragh Vieyra used a feed from James Pucci off a corner kick by Wyatt Hill to score at the 36:36 mark. It was Vieyra's first goal in a D&E uniform.
Millersville, an NCAA National Semifinalist last year, responded near the end of the first half when Zack Caracciolo scored off an assist from Jeramey Robbins.
The match stayed even for most of the second half until the Senators scored twice in a span of three minutes to put the game out of reach. Pucci scored off a through ball by Oilver Bienias at the 81:05 mark.
Two minutes later Bienias dribbled through most of the Marauders' defense to beat keeper Chris Schneider for the final goal of the day.
Keeper Moises Oseguera finished with six saves for D&E and Schneider collected five for Millersville.
Coach Aron Bassoff stated, "It was a very good win for us in the early part of the year. It was a big regional win, and we just want to keep on playing well so the win means something to us later in the season.
D&E improves to 3-1 and Millersville falls to 2-2.
