West Virginia State swept Davis & Elkins in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at the Joni Smith Softball Field on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets earned a 10-2 win in game one and added a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.
D&E surrendered 10 runs off of 12 hits to drop a 10-2 decision in the first game. Pitcher Alanna Jones took the loss for the Senators, while Kelsey Lorraine went the distance to earn the win.
Mattie Best, Desiree Giffin, Mallory Hilton, Best, and Poppy Ramey had two hits each for the Yellow Jackets. Sabrina Schouten led West Virginia State with 3 RBIs.
Bridget Ours and Devony Pugh each went 1-for-2 to pace the Senators offense.
The Yellow Jackets scored four runs off of 11 hits in the second game to earn a 4-1 victory. Autumn Appleby took the loss for D&E and finished with three strikeouts.
Victoria Crawford went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI to pace West Virginia State, while Desiree Giffin added two hits and 1 RBI.
Mallory Wishard led the Senators with three hits and 1 RBI. Amanda Serafini went 2-for-4 and scored one run.
The Senators fall to 20-23 overall and 6-10 in WVIAC action, while West Virginia State improves to 27-10, 10-4. D&E travels to Buckhannon on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan.
