ELKINS, WV - The Davis & Elkins softball team dropped two games to first place Charleston on Friday at the Joni Smith Softball Field. The Senators lost the first game 10-3 and dropped the second game 12-10.
D&E dropped the first game 10-3 as pitcher Alanna Jones took the loss. UC scored three runs in the top of the second inning off four hits and one error. The Golden Eagles added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning off three hits and another D&E error.
The Senators got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored two runs off three hits and a UC error. Mallory Wishard started the inning with a single and then advanced to second when Bridget Ours reached base on an error. Devony Pugh advanced the runners when she grounded out to the shortstop. Samantha Crabtree singled to score Wishard, and then Lizzy Williamson followed with a singled that scored Ours.
D&E added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning and then Charleston put the game out of reach as they scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Carissa Dunn led the Senator offense as she went 4-for-4 with 1 RBI, and Jenifer Kennon and Mallory Wishard added two hits each.
The Senators dropped a heartbreaker in the nightcap as they fell 12-10 and pitcher Alanna Jones took the loss.
Amanda Serafini led the offense as she went 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs and two runs scored. Lizzy Williamson was solid at the plate as she finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Jenifer Kennon had 3 RBIs and Cariss Dunn added 2 RBIs.
D&E falls to 20-21 overall and 6-8 in the WVIAC, while Charleston improves to 24-12 and 12-0 in the conference.
The Senators host West Virginia Saturday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Joni Smith Softball Field.
