INSTITUTE, WV - The Davis & Elkins baseball team dropped two games on the road Friday, as they fell to West Virginia State 9-1 and 7-3.
The Senators dropped the first game of the day 9-1 as pitcher Josh Kehr took the loss. D&E scored their run in the top of the second inning as Lance Vannoy flied out to score Matt Barr from third base.
The Yellow Jackets responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs and never looked back to earn the win. West Virginia State scored one run each in the third and fourth innings and added three more in the bottom of the sixth.
The Senators were limited to two hits in the game, one by Eric Doyle and one by Lance Vannoy.
In the second game the Yellow Jackets struck early as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning off seven hits.
The Senators got on the board in the top of the third inning when Treavor Dubiel walked, advanced to second on a ground out, reached third off a single by Anthony Ragos and scored off a ground out by Brenton Kopecek.
The Senators made it 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning as they scored two runs off two hits. With two outs Kyle Crist singled to second base and scored when Matt Barr blasted a home run.
State responded in the bottom half of the inning when they scored two runs off five hits to conclude the scoring.
Matt Barr went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a home run, while Anthony Ragos added two hits. Brenton Kopecek added one RBI.
Pitcher Zach McElroy took the loss as he allowed seven runs off 13 hits.
D&E falls to 12-18 overall and 8-10 in the WVIAC.
