BASEBALL SPLITS WITH CARDINALS

WHEELING, WV- The Senators traveled to Wheeling on Tuesday to take on WVIAC opponent Wheeling Jesuit in baseball action.

Davis & Elkins (12-16, 8-8) took the first game of the contest by a 3-1 score but were denied the series sweep losing game two by a score of 4-3.

In game one, junior Colby Fisher took the mound looking to put the Senators in the win column.  Fisher tossed 5 1/3 innings giving up just one run on five hits.  He struck out five and walked none on the day.  Junior Kyle Crist pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.

At the plate, the Senators were led by junior Anthony Ragos who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.  Crist also contributed at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.  For the game, the Senators were 8-for-28 (.286) with no extra basehits.

In game two, D&E jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before falling behind in the bottom half 2-1.  It didn't take long for the bats to answer back.  In the top of the 5th, Mike Mroz led off with a double to left centerfield before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Houston Darling.  Darling was safe at first as the Cardinals tried to get the out at third but failed.  After a walk to Anthony Ragos, his third of the game, senior Brenton Kopecek would ground into a double play that would score Mroz and tie the game at two.  With Kyle Crist at the plate, Darling scored on a wild pitch to give the Senators a 3-2 lead.  Unfortunately, it would not be enough as Wheeling Jesuit would plate a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to take the victory.

Senior Cory Keesee got the start and threw 3 2/3 innings giving up two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three.  He would be relieved by fellow senior John Commins who would throw 2 2/3 innings and take the loss after allowing runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.  He would give up four hits and strike out two in the loss.

The Senators will be back on the road this weekend against Southern Division foe West Virginia State University with a 1:00 pm doubleheader on Friday and a single game at 1:00 pm Saturday.
